The original Gold Leaf Stratocaster was built by Mark Kendrick "Fender Master Builder ", as a custom order for Eric Clapton at the time of the 50th anniversary of the company in 1996. It was the main instrument of Clapton during the Legends in 1997. Clapton used it for the last time the guitar during his "One More Car, One More Rider 2001 world tour, before selling it to Christies for US $ 455,000.
